The seven winners and 14 finalists of the 2012 Triangle Business Journal CFO of the Year Awards were honored Thursday at the Marriott City Center in downtown Raleigh.
The awards ceremony kicked off on a light note, as Bryan Hamilton, the publisher of the TBJ, quoted Alexandre Dumas - “Business? It’s quite simple; it’s other people’s money.”
After a quick word from the event’s sponsors, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, the title sponsor, Monaghan Group , the statewide presenting sponsor, and Cherry Bekaert & Holland, the presenting sponsor, it was time to present the awards.
Kari Stoltz, the Triangle market president of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, presented the first award to Erica Oliver of Open Software Integrators in the small private company category.
Oliver was described as the “life blood of her employer,” with a passion for nonprofit volunteering.
George Quick of Durham County won in the government category, for developing a news way to finance capital projects.
Quick advised the crowd to “take it one phase at a time, compensate for errors, don’t try to be a superstar, and minimize your losses.”
The other winners included Will Sendall of Bronto Software, Leigh Bleeker of Duke Raleigh Hospital , Jackie Decker of Communities in Schools of North Carolina, Mark Hahn of Cempra Inc., and Brian Armstrong of bioMerieux Inc.
